Export

Export Your Lists

Export Today, any project, or your Inbox as a PDF, Markdown, or Rich Text file, ready to share, print, or drop into another app.

What Gets Exported

  • Projects export with stages as sections, stage colours, and a progress summary.
  • Today and the Inbox export as clean checklists.
  • Notes keep full markdown styling with your Markdown Settings colours.
  • Links in notes are ordinary Markdown, so they survive the export and still work wherever the file is opened.

Email

Choose Email and Set opens a ready-to-send email with the list in the body and two attachments: a PDF and a Markdown file.

It goes wherever you want it to. The address in Settings is only a prefill, you can put several addresses in separated by commas, and you can always change the recipients in the email itself.

The Markdown attachment is the point. A PDF is something to look at, but whoever receives the Markdown file can open it in Set with Import Project and get the whole project back as tasks and stages.

Import a Project from Markdown (Pro)

Set could always write Markdown but never read it back. Now it goes both ways:

  • # becomes the project
  • ## headings become stages
  • List items become tasks
  • Indented list items become subtasks
  • Indented plain text becomes notes
  • Durations and dates written into each line are parsed, the same way Set reads them when you type

Ordinary Markdown checklists from other apps work too, not just files Set produced.

Ways in

  • Settings → Data → Import Project from Markdown
  • Paste from Clipboard, in that same sheet, for Markdown you have copied rather than saved
  • Share or open a .md file to Set from Files, Mail, or anywhere else, and Set offers to import it
  • Import Project… in the Projects toolbar

Before anything is created

A review step shows exactly what will be created: the stages, the tasks, and their durations. Untick anything you don’t want. Choose whether it becomes a new project or goes straight into Today. Imported tasks are never starred, so an import can’t quietly take over your day.

One undo removes the whole project again.

Export Options

Configure export under Settings → General → Export Options:

  • Black & white for printing, which overrides every colour including markdown headings and highlights
  • Include notes
  • Include subtasks
  • The prefilled Email address, or several separated by commas
  • Show Set branding in footer, on by default. Pro can switch it off to export without the Created with Set footer.

Where to Find It

Export lives in the Today and project toolbars, and in the Projects toolbar for your Inbox. In Today the action names the day you are looking at: Export Today…, or Export Thursday… when you have paged the week strip to another day.

Free vs Pro

Exporting is free. Import a Project from Markdown is Pro, and so is switching off the Set branding in the PDF footer.
