Frequently Asked Questions

Subscription & Pricing

Can I try Pro features before paying?

Yes! Set Pro includes a free trial period. You can test all Pro features before your subscription begins.

What happens if I cancel my Pro subscription?

You’ll revert to the free tier limitations, but your data remains safe. You can re-subscribe anytime to restore Pro features.

Does the lifetime plan include future features?

Yes! The lifetime plan includes all current and future Pro features with no additional cost.

Can I use my subscription on multiple devices?

Yes! Your Pro subscription works across all your Apple devices signed into the same Apple ID.

Pro also works with Family Sharing, so one subscription covers your whole household through Apple’s family group. There is nothing to set up in the app. If someone in your family already subscribes and Pro isn’t unlocked for you, tap Restore Purchases in Settings.

Are there any discounts available?

Yes! We offer discounts on all plans for:

  • Students & Educators: Valid .edu email address or student ID required
  • Healthcare Workers: NHS staff and healthcare workers with valid work ID or email verification

To apply for a discount, please contact us with proof of eligibility. We’ll verify your status and provide you with a discount code.

Features & Functionality

How does the automatic time calculation work?

Set adds up the time estimates for all your starred tasks to show you exactly when you’ll finish your day. When you reorder tasks or mark them complete, Set instantly recalculates your timeline.

What’s the difference between Inbox, Today, and Projects?

  • Inbox: Quick capture for tasks you haven’t organized yet
  • Today: Your daily timeline with starred tasks and automatic scheduling
  • Projects: Long-term goals broken down into stages and tasks

Do I need an internet connection to use Set?

No! Set works completely offline. All your data is stored locally on your device. iCloud sync is automatic rather than a switch you flip: if your devices are signed into the same iCloud account, your tasks catch up with each other whenever you’re online. Settings shows it as a status row reading Automatic, not a toggle.

Can I turn photos or handwritten lists into tasks?

Yes! Scan Tasks from Image (a Pro feature) lets you photograph or import any list (handwritten notes, whiteboards, printed lists, screenshots) and turns it into tasks, picking up durations, dates, and times automatically. It uses on-device Apple Intelligence on supported devices, with smart parsing everywhere else, and you review everything before it’s added. See the Scan Tasks documentation.

Can Set block distracting apps?

Yes! The App Blocker (a Pro feature, iPhone and iPad only) blocks distracting apps or whole categories with Screen Time. Block while a task timer runs, or choose “Until Today is clear” so apps stay blocked until your list is done. See the App Blocker documentation.

Can Set clean up or rewrite my notes?

Yes! AI Notes (a Pro feature) rewrites task notes with a tap: Improve Formatting cleans up messy notes into structured markdown, and Rewrite as Clear Steps turns them into a checklist. It runs on-device with Apple Intelligence, and one tap reverts to your original. See the AI Notes documentation.

Is there a distraction-free view?

Yes! Focus Mode (iPhone and iPad) strips the Today view down to just your tasks and their start times. Double-tap the empty space below your list, or tap the Today tab again, to enter it, and double-tap the background to leave. A single tap on that empty space instead dismisses whatever is open: a revealed swipe first, then an expanded task card. See the Focus Mode documentation.

Does Set work on Apple Watch?

Yes, as a standalone watch app. Today’s timeline is on your wrist with tap to complete, the Reschedule button, duration editing, read-only calendar events, a mirrored timer, a Stats page, voice capture and two complications. It syncs through iCloud on its own, so it works whether or not your iPhone is nearby. Only the timer controls need the phone in range. See Apple Watch.

Can Siri add a task, and is there a Shortcuts action?

Say “Add a Set task” to your iPhone, Mac or Apple Watch and it joins today’s plan without Set ever opening. Say a duration in the sentence, like “email Sam 15m”, and Set reads it out of the text. The same capture is a Shortcuts action called Add Task, so it works from the Action button, Spotlight and automations, and there is an Open Timer action too. English only for now. See Siri & Shortcuts.

How do my calendar events work?

They are not tasks. Today reads the calendars you choose and shows each event as its own read-only row at its real start time. Nothing is written to your database or to iCloud for them, so an event can never land in your Inbox and can never turn into a duplicate task. Reschedule fits your tasks into the gaps between your meetings, and nothing you do to a task can move, rewrite or delete a real event. Tap an event to edit its title, times, duration and notes straight into your calendar. All-day events are left out.

Turn it on under Settings → Calendar & Reminders → Show calendar events in Today. It is a Pro feature. See Calendar & Reminders Sync.

What are the sync options?

Calendar and Reminders ask different questions, because they behave differently.

For your calendar, nothing is ever imported: events are read live and drawn in Today, never copied into Set. So the only choice is whether Set writes to your calendar. Show Only never does. Show & Add also puts your own tasks there as events. Editing an event from its card reaches your calendar in either mode, because that is a deliberate action rather than sync.

For your reminders, it genuinely runs both ways, since a reminder becomes a task. Import Only reads and never writes back. Two-Way sends your edits, completions and deletions back to Reminders, and only for things you actually changed in Set.

Where is my data stored?

All your task data is stored locally on your device and in your personal iCloud account. Syncing is automatic, using your own iCloud storage. We never have access to your tasks or personal information.

Can I export my data?

Yes! You can export Today, any project, or the Inbox as a PDF, Markdown, or Rich Text file. There is also an Email option that opens a ready-to-send email with the list in the body and both a PDF and a Markdown file attached. It goes to any address, or several separated by commas. Configure formatting (black and white, include notes, include subtasks, and the prefilled email address) under Settings → General → Export Options. See the Export documentation for details.

Can I import a project from Markdown?

Yes, and it is the other half of Markdown export. A # heading becomes the project, ## headings become stages, list items become tasks, indented list items become subtasks, indented plain text becomes notes, and durations and dates are read from each line. Ordinary Markdown checklists from other apps work too. A review step shows exactly what will be created before anything is, and one undo removes the whole project. Importing is a Pro feature. See the Export documentation.

Do my settings sync between devices?

Yes. Around 130 preferences travel with your iCloud account, including theme and colours, date format, week start, day start and end times, sounds, swipe actions, defaults, notifications and every sync option. Which calendars and reminder lists you selected sync too, matched by name so each device resolves them against its own accounts. App Blocker settings stay per device, because Screen Time authorisation is tied to the device.

Is my data encrypted?

Yes! Your data is encrypted both on your device and in iCloud using Apple’s security standards.

Getting Started

How do I add my first task?

  1. Tap the ”+” button in the Inbox
  2. Enter a task name and time estimate
  3. Tap “Add” to save the task
  4. Star the task to add it to your Today view

What’s the best way to estimate task duration?

Start with your gut feeling, then adjust based on experience. It’s okay to be wrong at first - you’ll get better at estimating over time. Set tracks your actual time spent if you use the timer feature.

Can I use Set for work and personal tasks?

Absolutely! Projects are a great way to separate different areas of your life. Create separate projects for work, personal goals, hobbies, etc.
